With 17 states in the midst of winter storm watches or warnings, and a big storm heading across the country to the northeast, it's again time for many of us to consider alternatives to running in the elements.
(Sung to the tune of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland")
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, feet are blistering,
A pitiful sight, my hands with frostbite,
Running in the winter wonderland.
Gone away is the summer,
Now it’s cold, what a bummer,
I want to run long, but that would be wrong,
Running in the winter wonderland.
In the basement I can use the treadmill,
And pretend that I’m on solid ground,
I’ll be warm and safe from ice and snowballs,
And no more bites from next door’s afghan hound.
Later on, I’ll perspire,
And my legs, they will tire,
But I’ll be inside, my clothes nice and dry,
Running in the winter wonderland.
In the basement I can use the treadmill,
And pretend I’m running in the street,
I can punch in many different programs,
And never have to go out in the sleet.
When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
That my nose won't be chilling.
Cause Santa you see, gave a treadmill to me,
For running in the winter wonderland.
