How far can you run in 24 hours? Ultramarathoner Scott Jurek thinks he can do more than 162 to break the American record (the world record is 178). He is competing today and tomorrow in the 24-Hour Run world championship in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France. The course is a 1.4 kilometer loop on a road, quite a difference from the mountain and desert courses Scott has successfully navigated in his ultra-running career.
Scott is arguably the top ultra runner in the U.S., and among the best in the world. He is quite an interesting guy and a reason I'm happy to have him as one of the contributors to my book which goes on sale October 19.
For more about Scott and the race, see the article here from the New York Times.
